The beginning year of the project, 2001

The first year of the IQ Form project contained wide research and development activity. The first version of the IQ Form tool was developed for the Finnish Virtual University portal. The tool was further developed to match the goals set to an interactive system.

The first support service, the IQ Learn software consists of large data bank and tutoring system. Tutoring system consists of tutoring sets with hypertext structure, electronic diary and learning portfolio. Self-evaluation tests are used in data gathering.

Tests were tested in courses of universities of Helsinki, Oulu,
Tampere and Joensuu in spring 2001.
Improved tests were tested in the universities of Helsinki, Oulu,
Tampere and Joensuu in the fall of 2001.
During the year 2001 researchers participated seminars and
meetings coordinated by the Virtual University.
Project was presented in different conferences in Finland and
        abroad during the year 2001.

The first version of the IQ Learn system has been in use in the portal of Finnish Virtual University since November 11th 2001.

The project during the years 2002 and 2003

The system was evaluated and developed on the students' point of view.

During the pilot phase, there was arranged seminars and demonstrations where teachers, designers, students and researchers could have share their experiences.

From the spring of the year 2002 the IQ Form system has been available in english and from the autumn of the year 2002 also in Swedish.

To the system, there has been attached a social space and scopes for action where virtual collaborative learning is supported and target-oriented. Also this part of the IQ Team system contains tests and guidance based on self-evaluation.

In May 2002 there was published a book Theoretical Understadings for Learning in the Virtual University that has been collected from the articles of the researchers of the project and is edited by Hannele Niemi and Pekka Ruohotie.

During the year 2003, the IQ Learn and the IQ Team systems were developed in to their final form on the bases of the data gathered by pilot use and reseach.

The project during the year 2004

The tests of the IQ Form system were revalidated. The data consisted of the responses to the interactive on-line tests of the IQ Learn (N = 509) and IQ Team (N = 275) tools. According to the new analysis, the structure of the tests are valid and stable, and can be recommended for further use to enhance students’ motivation in learning, learning skills and collaboration in universities and polytechnics.

From the autumn of the year 2004 the IQ Team system has been available also in Swedish.
