How do we deal with children's questions? Semantic aspects of encounters between children and professionals in child institutions. (1996, in English) The study focused on children's and professional's questions and conversations in child care clinic, day care centre, school and library. The study shed light on the dialogues, initiatives, questions, and answers that restrain and enhance children's participation.

Monika Riihelä, Playing Researchers (2000, in English)
This publication is a post-doc study published in a form of a video and a written report. The study focused on children's play and co-operative group work in day care center. The report presents a new theoretical model for social action that can be applied to practice (with children).

Giving Children the Floor. Transition in the Tradition of Professional Practice. (2000, in Finnish)
The research considered the position of children by clarifying how they are able to participate actively and on their own initiative in the activities of an institution. The research analyses the professionalism and the child as a cultural construct. The study is phenomena-based and multi-disciplinary. It represents cultural research and traditional models of thought and action are questioned. The research are linked to development action.

Music Studies as Part of Children's Lives.
The study focuses on the meaning of music school teaching in 7- to 13 year-old children's lives and how the motivation to study is maintained. The study includes longitudinal qualitative data (1996-2000).

Minna Huotilainen, Ph.D., docent in cognitive science, researcher of the
development of auditory perception and memory in children, researcher at the
Collegium of Advanced Studies, University of Helsinki, Finland. Research topics
include fetal and neonatal auditory capabilities, the effect of prematurity on
auditory perception and memory, disabilities of auditory perception and their
relationship to preceiving and producing speech, early remediation of speech
perception disabilities.

Children's Play from 7- to 12-Year-Old Children's Point of View. 7 to 12-years-old children's play descriptions in Helsinki and Tallinn. The material includes children's written descriptions of their play (over 1100 from Helsinki and over 300 from Tallinn) and interviews.

The design and evaluation of children's physical and vocal user Interfaces.
The aim of the project is to develop new play and user interfaces for children that can be controlled with body movements and voice.

Children's own Stories from the Narratological Perspective. The study focuses on 5-year-old children's stories narrated as part of the story exchange in "Storyride" project. This study applies narratological perspective to children's stories, and focuses especially on the structure of the stories, the characters, and the themes.
