PEC Overview

European Science Teachers: Scientific Knowledge, Linguistic Skills and Digital Media (PEC) is a COMENIUS 2.1 Action, financed by Socrates project, 226641-CP-1-2005-1-ES-COMENIUS-C21. The overall aims of the project are to develop Initial (Pre-Service) Science Teacher Education and innovative activities emphasising reading and writing in science, which may also be transferred to other subjects, educational contexts and European countries. The Coordinator of the PEC is the University of Alcalá, Spain.

This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. This web-page and documents/publications which could be downloaded here reflects the views only of the author, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein.

The specific aims of the project are, to:
- Elaborate/implement activities and learning materials to facilitate learning in Science.
- Develop reading comprehension and written expression skills concerning scientific texts through linguistic activities.
- Demonstrate how common/scientific language can contribute to scientific literacy in Secondary Education.
- Use Internet as an information source in secondary school pupils’ activities (scientific web sites as authentic material to develop didactic activities).
- Promote mobility actions of Science Student Teachers
- Evaluate/disseminate obtained outputs.

The outputs of the project will be:
- A comparative study of Science curricula in participating countries.
- Selected/analysed web sites.
- Scientific/linguistic didactic activities
- CDs addressed to Student Teachers/Secondary School pupils
- Mobility Actions
- Course addressed to in-service teachers
- Report of conclusions
